General Motors - 2010 Chevy Equinox needed new transmission AND engine after 6 years

Both my wife and I's fathers both worked for GM for 40 years. We were all loyal GM customers. No longer. I bought a 2010 Equinox brand new, and seconds after the warranty expired, the transmission blew and we paid over $3K to fix it. Only one year later, the engine blew and needed to be replaced to the tune of $4K... Of course, GM's suggestion was to buy an extended warranty next time. HA! I assured them they lost two the generational loyalty of two entire families, and will instead purchase a vehicle from Honda or Subaru that doesn't require a 10 year warranty because they actually make good cars.

Resolved: General Motors in Oshawa, Ontario - Steering flat spotting, sticky

3.0
Details

Update by user Aug 01, 2016

dealership said steering problem was covered by warranty and they replaced entire steering gear and re-aligned front wheels.

Original review posted by user Jan 28, 2016

I have a 2012 Equinox 4 cyl. It has electric steering, 82000 km While driving at highway speed in a straight line a noticeable sticky spot occurs where it takes extra effort to move the steering wheel to make a correction. The extra effort required to correct the steering at highway speed is very annoying and tends to decay faith in the steering capabilities of the vehicle. Low speed driving requires more correction so the sticking is not as noticeable. What truth is there in the suggestion that computer feedback controls the steering response as well as steering wheel feel feedback to the operator ?

The dealership said there was an issue with the steering , they checked and replaced the complete electric steering unit.

there is a special coverage on the steering for the condition you are describing..contact your local dealer , if that does not work contact GM at the number in your owners manual.

General Motors - Car Review from Bellevue, Washington

I actually giving General Motors ZERO STARS ! That is exactly what they deserve! My advice to everyone: Spend your money wisely, DO NOT BUY G.M. PRODUCT !! The same part failed FIVE TIMES and G.M.kept replacing it with DEFECTIVE parts! Then, when the 3year /36K mi warranty expired, the part failed again and G.M. said that I should now purchase and install the same DEFECTIVE PART ! Well, first of all, it's been less then a year/12,000mi since the last time G.M. had installed yet another defective part(well within their replacement warranty). Secondly, those replacement parts, that are offered by G.M. are all defective, so here's my question- WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR A DEFECTIVE PART THAT SHOULDN'T BE DEFECTIVELY PRODUCED BY G.M. and FOR THE PART THAT SHOULD BE REPLACED UNDER THEIR A YEAR/12,000 mi WARRANTY ANYHOW?? HERE'S MY ADVICE TO G.M.- TRY TO EARN THE BUSINESS BY PRODUCING GOOD, RELIABLE PARTS, GOOD CARS AND STAND BEHIND YOUR PRODUCT. Then, and only then you'd get your old customers back.

I do not know who is telling you this information but it is not true. I have worked at GM dealerships since 1983 in parts and service and our policies and procedures manual specifically says that your problem, if all your information is correct is covered.

I would be curious to know what part has been replaced 5 times in 3 years, in my 32 years I do not recall ever seeing that . Call the General Motors number in your owners manual and they will take care of it.

General Motors in Sioux City, Iowa - 8-1547129785

Just received my vehicle back from the dealer, he problem is vibration. they stated that they have done all they can to alleviate the problem. In the meantime there are two more vehicles in the shop for the same problem. Plus there are two on the used car lot that were traded in for vibration problems. This is a major issue with the Silverado but GM is not addressing the problem. The vibration issue appeared on all vehicles between 9k and 12k miles. What is GM going to do with this problem?

General Motors in London, Ontario - GM Complaint

My husband and I bought a car from you 7 years ago. A Cobalt 2008 VIN# 1G1AL55F087339200. We were pressured into buying the undercoating and paid extra to have the warranty to cover our car for 10 years against rust. Not once did ANYONE tell us to make sure we had to get it checked every year and signed!!!! We were at your dealership at least 3-4 times a year with oil changes, breaks problems, rotors warping etc etc. Some things were warranty some we had to pay. In all those years and appointments times we were in the shop NO ONE EVER ASKED about the warranty undercoating or whether it should be checked OR for me to have anything signed. I remember asking DAN a few times about it and he always said "Oh no worries we check every year and touch it up as needed." We never worried about it because we trusted YOU!! So many opportunities to remind us of this signature page (which we were not told about) or reminded off in all the 7 years we have been faithfully trusting you to take care of our COBALT????? I kept all my receipts and have spent over $3000 over the last 7 years on this vehicle at your shop! A year or so ago I told DAN I had found rust. (at one of my oil change appts) He said he would note it and call the guy in charge. Never heard from DAN. Next time around I reminded DAN AGAIN and he said he would look into it. AGAIN nothing no phone call nothing. Then I called DAN and talked to him about it maybe Sept 2015. He told me the name of the guy and that I would have to go to LONDON to book an appt to have the rust looked at. Which I thought was not very convenient. I bought the car from GM Strathroy and now I need to drive to London? After having the car looked at, (BY A FELLOW FROM CULLENS) WE WERE ASKED FOR A PIECE OF PAPER WITH SIGNATURES ON IT?? I had no idea of paper this guy was asking about. Anyways, he said he would call me back. I AM STILL WAITING FOR A CALL. I have again received no phone calls from him or DAN as to what is happening. I am pretty sure you are not going to help me our with this rust. Your GM SHOP excels at "NOT GETTING BACK TO THE CUSTOMER!!" I am filling a official complaint against GM Strathroy

You fell for their line and bough something your didn't really need. Most cars nowadays don't really have a problem with rust as in the days of yore.

In fact, putting that rust-proofing gunk on the bottom of the car can cause rust! That is the conclusion of not only some studies years ago but of people who paid for places like Ziebart to do the job---remember them? The bottom line, tho is that somewhere in the paperwork given to you when you had it done they spelled out the yearly requirement for inspection. You didn't read it.

If you have a copy of it, read it. And weep. This is how we learn.

Good luck. And, with your new PM you will certainly need it.

General Motors - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox Review from Niagara Falls, New York

I owed two Chevrolet vehicles in my life and both were the most repairs I ever had to do. About the Chevy 2006 Equinox....I am sick that I purchased this!!!! The heating system seems possessed. Since I purchased the *** thing I have been back to the local dealer I purchase it from 5 times for it running hot, no heat when idling or parked, a smell coming from vents etc....the thermostat, 3 times, some other part twice and the heater core TWICE!!!!!! THE DEALER PAID ANOTHER RADIATOR REPAIR SHOP TO FIX IT THE SECOND TIME AND WASHED HIS HANDS.....IT SEEMED TO WORK FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS FINE.....THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT, BACK ON N OFF....NO HEAT WHEN IDLING OR STOPPED....ONLY WARM HEAT WHEN DRIVING WITH FOOT ON GAS.....I BROUGHT IT BACK AGAIN AND NOW THEY SAY IT MUST BE A HEAD GASKET BUT WILL CHECK OVER AGAIN. I AM A DISABLED, SINGLE MOTHER OF FOUR. I RECEIVE FOODSTAMPS AND CAN BARELY MAKE ENDS MEET. THIS IS MY ONLY WAY TO GET TO DOCTORS AND KIDS SCHOOL. WITH ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAD THE SAME ISSUES.........GM SHOULD OF RECALLED THE 2006 EQUINOX!!! I OVERHEATED ON THE GRAND ISLAND BRIDGE CREATING A SAFETY PROBLEM FOR MY FAMILY AND OTHERS. I WANT TO KEEP BUYING AMERICAN BUT I DON'T TRUST GM ANYMORE.....GENERAL MOTORS AND CHEVY SHOULD WANT TO KEEP THE REP THEY HAD......MORE AND MORE ....PEOPLE ARE GOING FOREIGN.....SMH I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO BUT DO KNOW PEOPLE GET DESPERATE....MAYBE SOMEONE WILL MAKE A CAR BOMB OUT OF THE 2006 EQUINOX AND BLOW UP A GM FACTORY......BUT EVEN THAT WOULDN'T BE A RELIABLE USE FOR THIS PIECE OF ***....BECAUSE YOU HAVE INSURANCE AND WOULD JUST GET PAID BACK FOR YOUR LOSS.....I regret buying this vehicle and plan to tell everyone how GM does not address their safety issues. Furthermore, a report was filed with the NYS dot. I plan to update. Shame on you Chevy .....the 2006 equinox is a nice looking pile of waste.....smh!!!!!

This is a story that needs followed for General Motors and AutoNation. Sure we are not only people with recall vehicle was sold to or only people that have recall that is a safety issue for families. If enough pressure put on these companies this issue for everyone could be resolved. This complaint is once again regarding AutoNation Chevrolet Security Blvd 6633 Security Blvd Baltimore MD/ General Motors . . Neither company has a problem wanting to sell vehicles or advertising to sell vehicles or bragging how many they do sell. However the after sale or customer service for this companies does not happen or do they try to help customers. We stiil do not have our 2008 Chev Silverado truck purchased December 16, 2015 or any answers to when the Takata airbag recall will be repaired. Vehicle was sold to us by AutoNation with recall in place from June 2015. We have asked for a loaner vehicle but once again AutoNation is blaming higher up and General Manager Mike says they can not give us loaner till they know when our vehicle will be fixed. States not him comes from his boss that we can not speak with. We have no answer for when this will be repaired since they put no effort into finding out this information or keep in touch with us as they have stated they will. Since this is a recall from June 2015 it has been eight months, month since we have owned vehicle. It is a very dangerous recall and has caused deaths and continues to cause this why is this recall not monitored more by General Motors and not repaired already for every vehicle involved. Families are driving these vehicles and General Motors should really be held accountable for this recall. As well as AutoNation for selling this vehicle with this recall you would think as a customer both companies would have answers and be doing everything possible to help us as a customer. However neither company is doing anything and we would not recommend either for buying a vehicle. Ronald and Wendy Venskoske

2016 Chevrolet Colorado headlights! You can only see this at night. Totally scratched ! After a claim that has been open for two months I have been told that I will not get new lights for my truck. The sticker price was over 40,000. GM does not care that the headlights are scratched nor will they do anything for me. I am a GM employees daughter also! I'm

Have you had to add oil? If you are having to add oil it is not seepage.

Seepage should not occur after 12000 miles. If so they will repair it. The wiring being chewed on is factual. I work at a GM dealer and I have had that happen to several vehicles and my riding mower.

We have actually removed mouse nests from air cleaners and chased them out from under hoods.

It is very common.. It even happens on Dodge products, lol.
