2012 Chevy Cruze poor gas mileage

Stay as far away from the Chevy Cruze as possible. The cars sticker says 27MPG City, 38 MPG highway (most drivers 31-45MPG highway,They removed that from the sticker after I complained) I use this car ONLY for highway use. It has a 1.4 liter engine with the turbo. Since the day I bought this car it only got 23 MPG on the highway. I have 45,000 miles on it now (Oct 2013) and I'm still getting 23 MPG highway. Yes, I've tried different speeds, cruise control, different Tier 1 gas and grades, brought it to the dealer 6 times(they cant find what's wrong), and all is still the same. As I'm driving on the highway, the cars computer is saying I'm getting 40, 50, 60, 90 MPG. As per the cars computer, when I add up how many gallons of gas the car has used so far to date, and divide it by the cars total mileage, it comes out to 27MPG (bogus). Every time I gas this car up, I do a mileage check. It always totals 23-24 MPG. GM says you cant go by what the computer says (WOW WEE) and they don't put figure on the sticker, the EPA does. GM Skwashed my complaints. I tried the lemon law in court and lost. (couldn't prove how that made the car lose value) Don't worry GM! my GM leases are going back REAL SOON. You don't need 1 little customer. lots and lots of Internet Bulletin Boards out there.

I just purchased a 2013 Chevy Cruze LTZ with the 1.4 Turbo motor; 6 speed Auto>

I have been commuting for 30 years now (Santa Maria to Goleta) one way 62 miles.

The only true problem I am having is the gas mileage. I am not even close to getting 38 MPG.

I knew this when I bought the car> I was hoping to get at least 35 MPG. I set the car on Cruz control.

(68 mph appox.)

If am lucky; I get 31 MPG. I am pretty disappointed. The tires are inflated correctly. Not too many hills.

The car only has 26,000 miles on it.

I had a 2003 Honda Civic that showed it should get appox. 40 miles to the gallon on the sticker. I was able to get 42 plus from that car.

Any hints on what can be done to at least achieve 35 MPG.

Not sure where to go to from here. I am almost ready to trade it in. I understand cars pretty well haven driven for so many years.

GM Sucks Big Time....should have let them go under

I purchased a certified used 2006 Pontiac from a GM dealer......after 80k and delligent maintenence a engine rod blew and the dealer wants to bang me 3k to crack it open and take a look..could be as much as 6k to repair...Really?.....i asked GM for assitance since my 5 year warranty just expired...figures......some customer service *** in the Phillipines who knows nothing, except how to annoy the *** out of you, tells me I am *** out of luck......basically telling me thats what I get for buying an American car.....never again......when I asked to speak to someone above her she told me she was it....Really? Some customer service lacky...thats it?

So 80k thats it.

I have friends driving Toyotas with 250K miles....and I'm the one that says buy American.......those words will never come out of my mouth again.....GM is the worst...look at me! I'm Done...This what happens when the goverment takes over an auto company and outsources it to third world countries.

My time, my 800 dollars in extra oil between changes .I have been a gm person for my entire life of 62 years and will never give that company one more dime or a second more of my time. Gmc trucks SUCK plain and simple ........all this in just 63000 miles

GM SUCKS!!! I bought a 2010 Equinox, it's now 2014 and I have spent thousands in repair.

GM tells me because I am out of warranty they will only support a $500 service credit or $1500 rebate to purchase a new car...so basically more money (I have spent at least $6-7000 in repair over the last two years).

I have had issues since the day I drove off the lot, it is a true lemon and GM will not get any of my future business. Nor should anyone out there give them business, they do not care that their customers have a four year old lemon rust bucket...they just keep producing less than reliable cars.

One of my complaints is that the engine sounds like a tractor and it has since I bought it, I have approached this many times with GM service and they say 'all Equinox sound like that'...really? I find that hard to believe.

I still have 4 years left with this car, you would think at the very least they would give me a deal like they are advertising now 0% financing on 2014 Equinox...something to reduce my monthly so that I don't feel like I am paying through the nose for this hunk of junk.

IF ANYONE OUT THERE IS THINKING OF BUYING GM, MAKE SURE TO GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OR YOU WILL BE UP *** CREEK AS GM WILL DO NOTHING TO SUPPORT YOU UNLESS YOU HAVE IT.

Guest

Sorry you fell for the gm scam. Did you read the placard in on the doorjamb?

Made in mexico. That's where I would have exited. Gm is junk wherever they make them, but if you live in the states, I hope you noticed Detroit". They don't make them there.

However if your interested in a Toyota, they makes them here.....gm has beenmaking *** for decades. Its sad to see the consumers that don't know cars buy 1.

I know this is an old post, but I just happen to come across it and had to vent my own options.... September 2012 I traded my 2009 Toyota Camry for a fully loaded 2012 Chevrolet Colorado (LT/V8/leather interior, etc.).

A week after purchasing the truck I noticed the reflective material for the signal lamps was flaking off. I decided to wait on taking the truck back the dealership for this issue since I would be taking it in for an oil change anyway. This decision took a great deal of reserve due to my particular nature--I take impeccable care of my stuff. A month later, when I would start the engine, there seem to be a 'clunk' coming from the transmission.

Again, I refrained from taking it in on a whim. A couple of weeks after this issue, there was some noise coming from the rear end of the truck.... Well, this was enough for me to decide to take it to the dealership. WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!

I don't have enough time to elaborate, but just an example of how they dealt with the rear end issue--the remedy was just to spray white lithium grease all over the leaf springs, rear differential and everything thing else.... I thought my issue with this dealership would be an isolated one--nope!! Six months after initial purchase, I needed to order a fender flare for the rear passenger side --I was told everything from "the part is discontinued" to "I would have to purchase a set of 4". Needless to say, I never got the replacement fender flare.

Just after a year of owning the truck, after parking the P.O.S. I could smell burning oil.... I decided to get rid of it--luckily, I got more than $500, because I would have been hard pressed to even give $100 for it myself. I honestly and truly wanted to give GM a chance and believe that the company had changed for the better...

Never again. I use to be "Buy American", but I work too hard to *** my money off on junk!!

Most of the diehard American car owners I've encountered are usually the ones that have the check engine light on constantly and trim pieces hanging off of the vehicle and are completely content with it..... They're also the ones who tend to mismanage their income as well--just like the company they support....

Guest

I have lived a few years more than most; I have always known that GM was a cheap no good product and yes they should have gone under and with odumbo at the joystick, well, we lost the chance to rid ourselves of GM like nash, delorian, studebaker and others who knew their product was substandard.

Car stalling multiple times and caused an accident (see below)

Hello, This is to whom it may concern. My name is justin mack I bought a Chevy cruze last April and the day that picked my car up it was filled up by the dealer (because it was bought brand new) as I drove out of the gas station the car stalled out and would not turn back on after a few try's and the dealer returning back to the gas station the car begin to turn on. They took it back and looked at it and show that it was nothing wrong.. A few days after I took the car home I filled the car up and it stalled once again at this time the engine light came on and it was taken to the shop where the e-vap purge valve which they believe would stop the issue. A week or so after I filled the car up once again on my way out of town and the same issue occurred where I was stuck on the side of the road after I filled up. I took back to the shop when they did my oil change and tires and they said that there is nothing wrong( when this occur at the time the engine lights come on) after I turn the car on and off a few times it's stop stalling. Recently on my trip out of town once again I filled my car up I waited to see if it would stall. When it did not I proceed to the highway once I entered the highway my care stalled once again but this time because of this I caused an accident... At this time no one can figure out what's wrong with my car I am paying a car note on a vehicle that I consider is a death trap! I have not ever had issues with Chevy as me and my family have been long time customers of your vehicle. However, in this case I am not satisfied with the results I continue to get I have to continue to bring my vehicle to the shop which my job does not allow me to do as often so the reason I am contacting you today is because it happened again on the highway and almost causes another accident. SOMETHING needs to be done immediately at this point I will not drive my vehicle until this issue is fix or I am given another vehicle. Me bringing this to your services in my area I continue to get the same result so I hope me emailing you I would get something different. First of all i purchased an brand new Ford Ranger back in 1999 ok.I went to purchase gas a while letter at an EXXON SERVICE STATION ok.As soon as i got ready to get up on the freeway to go home guess what my check engine light popped on.I had know idea what the problem was so i carried my brand new Ford Ranger back to ford where i purchased the vehicle.I told the tech what had happen when i went to purchase more gas and The tech asked me two questions.(1)Did i leave my truck running while filling up.(2)Where did i purchase my gas from.He stated that where ever i purchased my gas from probably had water in their gas and He told me not to get gas there no longer.Upon learning this i have never purchased gas for my vehicle at the EXXON SERVICE STATION and My vehicle check engine light has never came on again. So in saying this maybe where ever you purchased your gas from had water mixed in with the gas causing the check engine light to pop on.Be careful where you purchase your gas from.

Cracked engine block

Updated by user Oct 25, 2013

Bought new from dealer.

Original review Oct 24, 2013
2002 Camaro SS LS1 engine. 70K for milage. Dealer said block is cracked. GM does not make or have replacement block. Nor does Jasper. GM customer service no help at all. Nice, but no help. I would like compensation from GM!!! Some help would be nice $ My parents have always had and still buy GM. It is all I have even had, but if this is their service or attention to a customer, I will not purchase again. All I want is someone above the customer service on the phone to get involved and a reasonable solution. It hurts to have trusted GM all these years only to be let down by them.

I believe you left something out here. Did you buy the vehicle from the dealer that told you it had a cracked block?

If so, before or after you were told.

If purchased used, the warranty is whatever you agreed to with the seller, if any. I do not understand how GM would be responsible for a cracked block on an 11 year old car with 70K miles?????

OMG dont buy buick

I have been banging my head on a brick wal for 6 months. I just got chastized on your live chat and was pretty much called a crackpot yesterday by your executive office ( which sounds like a glorified call center ), I still have a problem with water not draining from all 4 doors of my encore. I am trying to resolve it before the doors rust out, but was told yesterday by one of your "team leaders" that i refused a neede repair for that issue .... REALLY !!!... and all this after my car was delivered dirty and damaged by ( from his comments to me ) a homophobic manager at the dealership. all i am looking for is a contact for some one who can help me, not pat me on the head and tell me its gonna be OK.

Chev Captiva

We bought a 2008 Chev Captiva 2lt Diesel 4x4, three and a half months ago from GM in Vanderbijlpark. Approximately 2 weeks after purchase the vehicle went into Limp mode and the GM took it back to assess the problem. We then got the vehicle back after a while and soon after it again went into limp mode. This went on for approximately 2 to 3 weeks, during purchase date. We only had the pleasure of driving this vehicle on and off for about 15 to 20 days of the three and a half months we had this vehicle. After many complains and fights the branch manager and area manager decided to withdraw the Captiva and replace it with a suitable vehicle to our liking. We did have a cutesy vehicle for the time been but we were not happy to drive any of these vehicles because this was not our own. We then decided to take and purchase the demo Chev Trailblazer 2.8 that was our last cutesy vehicle because GM could not repair our Captiva and we lost interest and confidence in the Captiva range. I then requested the selling price of the demo Trailblazer that we were using currently and Nati from GM Vanderbijlpark and the area manager Clinton were present on my request and Nati informed me that the reduced price of the demo Trailblazer was R380 000,00. I then told them that I want to purchase this vehicle at that price, but after a couple days the salesman Billy informed me that they can only supply me with a cheaper Trailblazer because they have to make up for the loss of the settlement on the Captiva. I feel that this is unfair that I have to pay for their loss of selling me an unreliable vehicle that I did not have the pleasure to drive. I suggest that they must reconsider and sell me the demo Trailblazer that I’m currently driving; otherwise they leave me no choice but to take this matter further. Purchasing New 2013 GMC Yukon @ Houston, Tx

**Disclaimer** Beck & Masten 11300 FM 1960 West. Houston, Tx 77065. Read this carefully before buying from this dealership. Horrible customer service! Deceptive sales personnel! I just bought a new 2013 GMC Yukon from this dealership. The sales person Manny Dawar was extremely rude to begin with. He and I kept getting into arguments one after another, the guy was not even man enough apologize of his behavior. When it came to finally offering them a price, they took it and neglected to inform me of the special offers that GM offered to their customers. After finding this out, I immediately contacted the dealership and asked the sales person why he neglected to inform me of such offers. He told me, "why should we tell you?" I could not believe what I was hearing! I complained to GM customer service and they told me that Beck & Masten should have informed me of such offers. With this being said, GM contacted the dealership in hopes to have this settled. The sales manager Andrew Martinez, of whom I never meet, called me. The conversation was brief, I simply wanted to know why he and the sales person neglected to inform me of the special offers. His answer was, "well in order for us to come up with the final price we had to include all special offers." I told him that he was not purchasing the vehicle, I was! Hence therefore, he could not possibly come up with the number! After going back and forward with this, Andrew just gave me numbers of the papers and said, "you have already signed all documents." When asked if he would take the vehicle back, he informs me that he won't. It hasn't even been seven days and the vehicle is garage kept, driven up to 25 miles, and this how they treat me. I explained thoroughly to GM customer service, so far they are just taking their sweet time to work on this issue. Total disappointment! I hope this information helps you if you plan to purchase any vehicles from this dealership.

Failing warranty responsibilty

In March,2007,my wife and I purchased a new Captiva from Central Coast Holden.I should say that we are 63 and 58 respectively and had always been GMH fans, our last car being a Calais which we traded in for the Captiva. At the time of purchase we lived in Cobar, NSW, (800ks from the dealer. We explained this fact to the salesman as we signed the contract for 3yrs factory warranty plus an extra 3yrs.At no time were we told that all services had to be completed at the Central Coast dealership. On three different occassions during the first 3 year warranty travelling between Central Coast and Cobar the engine light came on the NRMA were called. They inspected the vehicle and stated without accessing the vehicles computer they could not find the problem, suggesting that we take it to the dealer who would be able to diagnose the problem. This was done on all 3 occassions and each time the dealer said there was no problem. The 4th time the engine light came on we rang the service department to book the vehicle in under the cover of the second PAID for warranty they said it had been voided because we hadnt bought the vehicle to them for the last service. As explained distance was a problem and no mention of this had been made (no monies were refunded)????????? In March this year my wife was driving the vehicle BEU45F to Scone to visit her grandchildren when the car came to a stop. The NRMA were called and unable to restart the vehicle had it towed to Alan Ward motors at Scone. He spent 3 days pulling the motor down and found that for the life of the motor no oil had been getting to the top end of the motor. He stated that the engine light should have indicted this?????? Obviously it had. (He has taken photos of this) I then telephoned the dealer at Gosford and questioned him on why this hadnt been found when my wife had taken it there during the warranty period. The service department denied any knowledge of this being mentioned despite checking their records. We are not LIARS.I then telephoned your customer servive office and they did not want to know me. I have since googled problems with Captivas and found over 300 compaints there is even a Today Tonight program from Sth Aust covering this. I have also contacted 5 other Captiva owners via the internet all with the same problem. I am in the process of obtaining statements from these people, I have also obtained a statement from the NRMA officer in Cobar and Alan Ward Motors mechanic. I have contacted Fair Trading and claiming $7000 from GMH( Being the difference between the $4500 I was forced to scrap the car for and $11,500 , the amount 3 different independant dealers gave me as a trade in price, had the vehicle beeen roadworthy. I expect this complaint to end in cyber space however I will take my story to as many media outlets that I can find. As stated I have been a Holden owner all my life but I will be telling anyone who will listen never go to GMH again..................................PISSED OFF CRAPTIVA OWNER

*** engineering know problem without recal

I recently purchased a minni van with the 3.4 motor. It only has 90 000 km on it I have a large family and need my van. On the very first time that I took our van on a family road trip it began to over heat. On dyer the inspection I found that the intake gasket had blown. I have phone several reputable mechanics about the issue and have always recived the same story. They are notorious for blowing the intake gasket and chev refuses to do any thing about no recall not even so much as payment assistance in rectifying the problem. So I strongly Earge all people to boycot chev motor products all together as this has been an ongoing problem sine the early 90's and yet chev does nothing to support its customers. If you google google this you will see that it is indeed a very common problem and many people have spent thousands of dollars again and again to keep their piece of *** chev on the road. Now having said that with the 3.4 their are a great many other chev motors with the identical problem i.e 4.3 5.7 3.1 and the list goes on. Now what you might not know about your leaking intake gasket is it can cause some much more costly repairs to your vehicle up to and including the need for and entire engine. Not to mention the horrible inconvenice you may be placed in if you happen to have the unfortunate luck of having this happen away from your residence such as hotel bills food and most shops that I have conversed with have told me that it will take a minimum of 6-8 hour work that can't be completed until the proper parts are located and shipped wich could take 3- 10 days.

GM Certified Warranty Fraud

In 2010 I bought a 2009 Pontiac G6 GT with 30K on it. I'm so disgusted with GM at this point I could spit. Within six months it couldn't pass the State inspection for front brakes. Recently my wife complained of a vibration and "thump" in the front end of the car. She mentioned that it was there for a long time. I now have 52K on it an it needs a lower control arm and ball joint. A $359 repair as the certified warranty expired in Nov 2012. All I know is GM cars are ***. I've never had to do such a repair on any other brand at 52K. How does a component like that fail so early? The car has been babied by my wife since I bought it for her. I believe the defective front end was there all the time. That "Certified" inspection is nothing but a scam. Either they didn't inspect the front end, or they left it defective. Either way, I'll never buy anything from that Chevy dealer in Erie, PA ever again. Fool me once, shame on Dave Hallman Chevrolet. GM needs to clean up their certified program to eliminate the fraud they are perpetuating on the public. Don't buy a car because it's GM certified. It's just an excuse to charge you more money. The car can have real problems and they're just playing the odds.

I had a 2006 HHR and the bottom control bushing went bad at 54,ooo miles.... BAD design!!

How can you have a control arm pivot horizontally on a vertical shaft??????????????? $54?? just for the part and on most vehicles they cost around $15. I had to replace the swaybar links every year????...

I got smart and bought them from NAPA with a lifetime warranty, so each year I took them back to NAPA and got them replaced for free.

WTF is a pancake bushing? All I have to say to that is duh.

Headlamp 2009 GMC Sierra

I'm a little wound up right now, and I hope this embarrass GMC/Chevy for a ridiculous design. So my passenger side low beam head lamp went out. I went to the auto parts store to purchase a replacement. The two pack was $23 and the single $15 so I purchased the two pack assuming it won't be long until the second lamp goes out. When I get home I could not figure out how to replace a simple light bulb. It's usually less than a minute job. I get on line and find out you have to disassemble the front end of the truck, bumper, grill, etc.. to replace a head lamp. Are you kidding me! I don't have the time or the patience to mess with this so I take it to the dealer. They say they can't use the bulbs I supplied and charge me $39.80 for new bulbs, and $120 for labor to replace them. After a misc. charge of $4 and tax of $11.06, my $15 dollar light bulb is replaced for $174.86. Wow, it's not enough that GMC has tried to design out the local mechanic being able to work on their truck, but now I the consumer can't even simply replace a light bulb. I've purchased my last GMC product. Thanks for letting me vent. Dallen Baugh 801-592-****

Maybe it is a difficult repair. But if you bought the parts at a parts store you didn't get GM parts so that's why your mechanic couldn't use it-wrong part! If you had saved your receipts you could get your money back, and that's the real problem, isn't it!

Sat for 1/2 retried would not start. Found second set of keys and started right up. This is ridiculous all the complaints. I plan to file complaint with Attorney General's office. Everyone needs to do this to force a recall. GM knows they have this problem. I have read numerous sites on the internet where there is over 372 complaints with this same problem. This is ridiculous. Bad GM services period.

Took my 2007 Chey Avalanche for service work on breaks and service light that came on. Well, after several visits , service department finally approved to clean injectors and a couple weeks later I was back for same problem. At same time I went back to figure out why my temp.on my onstar mirror did not work, I was told I needed a new mirror at $500.00 or $700.00. I figured it might of been a sensor but what do I know. Although I was told that it was not. Well I needed to make sure that the shop was not right so I took my truck back to Texas and come to find out I was getting stiffed. Everything the shop at Alliance, Ohio did was not needed and the mirror they wanted me to buy was just a sensor. And brotors I bought were rusted and flaking off, so I spent $7,000.00+ on my truck that Iot need. So what do I do now?
