My 3.8L GM engine with 56000 miles failed do to a rod bearing bolt coming out and entering the cylinder chamber. My mechanic said the ONLY reason this happened was the factory didn't tighten the bolts.
One came completely out and the other one was half out. This engine should last for at LEAST 250,000 miles. It has never been torn down before, so it wasn't a matter of an "outside' mechanic's sloppy work. I have contacted Oldsmobile, they sent me to GM, GM sent me to a local GM certified dealer.
Now I'm waiting to hear from the GM's field rep's boss.
This has been ongoing since 12/30/13. I have the feeling I'm going to get screwed on this.
