General Motors in Huntley, Illinois - Unavailability of Auto Parts on 2019 GMC Terrain

1.0
Details
We had a minor accident with our GMC Terrain purchased ten weeks earlier which required replacement of the headlight assembly. (As a side note the cost of the assembly is over $1,000.) Despite numerous contacts with the customer service 800 number, no one was willing to take the necessary steps to solve the issue quickly. Our body shop finally received and installed the headlight assembly after seven weeks. The car rental, alone, was $30+ per day. Do the math!! As a life long Chevrolet-GMC-Oldsmobile customer I don't see us ever purchasing another GM product ever!!

General Motors in Bolingbrook, Illinois - Breaking exhaust manifold bolts, rusted fuel and brake lines

2.5
Details
I would like to file complaint on GM Exhaust manifold bolt defect and inferior brake and fuel lines. Mine is a 2005 gmc. The defective exhaust bolts affect about 12 million GM Trucks and SUVs. These include all GM Trucks and SUVs with V8 engines from 1999 to 2007. GM used exhaust bolts that are too small and too brittle for the job of securing the exhaust manifolds on millions of Chevy and GMC trucks. The heads are snapping off the bolts and causing exhaust leaks. To make matters worse they are screwed into aluminum heads and the bolts cannot be removed to repair the problem without snapping off even more bolts. Anti seize should have been applied to the bolts at the Factory so the bolts would at least come out without snapping off so a reasonable cost repair was at least possible. The exhaust leaks result in excessive noise, The trucks not passing emissions due to the exhaust leaks and dangerous exhaust fumes entering the drivers compartment of the vehicles while driving. I and my family get a carbon monoxide headache when I drive it and have had to pull over to the side of the road feeling like I was going to pass out, open windows and sit until I felt better. I have also had problems getting my truck to pass emissions due to the leaks and the leaks are causing the vehicles to be none EPA compliant because of O2 sensor errors resulting in failed emission test. Also the brake and fuel lines are not suitable for northern states causing brake failure with out warning, Fuel lines are all rusted and swelled in danger of bursting causing fire without warning. Ford and other vehicles I have worked on use stainless fuel lines and look like new for life of vehicle. I have also seen other manufacturers use powder coated brake lines on the entire vehicle and 20 year old vehilces show no rust problems with the lines. Also on My 2005 GMC from the rear end brake hose to the wheel cylinders they used powder coated brake lines. Those lines look like new yet. If GM Knew the powder coated lines were better why did they use faulty galvanized steel on the rest of the truck for brake and fuel lines? As it is now my truck can't be operated on the road without $3000 in repairs due to GM using poor quality parts. The truck has had these problems for over 5 years now and only has 138,000 miles. Trucks like this in southern states have over 250,000 miles and the lines are still good. A you tube video on Faulty exhaust bolts can be seen here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yG6WlBNZGI

General Motors in Carpentersville, Illinois - Never again

My experience with a General Motors car leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. The Chevy and Olds cars owned had flaking paint because of low gauge steel used whereby the paint would not adhere leaving the hood and truck with just white primmer. The Grand Prix transmission failed at 79,000 and I suspect that GM new there were issues with this transmission because every 6.000 they would recommend a trans flush. The Impala had 49,000 and the dash board looked like a xmas tree with all the flashing lights and sounds warning of transaxle and stability control failure. A history of recalls upon recalls. Never will I purchase anything from GM.

General Motors in Plainfield, Illinois - 2008 Buick Enclave CXL "$48,000 Death Trap"

1.8
Details
My wife bought a 2008 Buick Enclave when it was new. She had it Special Order. It was $ 48,000. We have had so many problems with it. Whenever we took it back to Darcy Buick, GMC in Joliet, We ended up fighting with the Service writer, and Paying ridiculous amounts of money. We had a Sunroof leaking at 17,000 miles, Two weather strips replaced, a Recall done due to causing a fire under the hood, rear rotors replaced twice, shocks, springs, and Struts replaced twice, a recall for the throttle plate sticking (which caused my wife to almost get re-ended by a Semi) and much, much more. I will never purchase another GM product as long as I live. It isn't worth it.

I purchased my 2010 Chevy Camaro in August of 2009. Since then, I have had to replace one catalytic converter, the throttle body and related wiring harness and the timing chains at about 35,000 miles. The timing chains are now failing again at about 70,000 miles. GM...

I'm also having the timing chain stretch issue on my 2010 camaro. This IS CLEARLY a design flaw.

Many, many others are suffering with this GM failure. Class action law suit needed.

General Motors in Downers Grove, Illinois - 2012 GMC Terrain with bad wheel bearing

2.0
Details
I recently took our 2012 Terrain to the dealer for a front end noise which was diagnosed as a bad left front wheel bearing. The vehicle has just under 20k miles (we bought it new). Dealer and GMC telling me it's normal wear and tear. What a bunch of BS. We baby this vehicle! I think I'm done with General Motors. And what's really sad I took pride in only buying vehicles that were from American companies. I'm starting to see why consumers buy foreign cars.

General Motors in Chicago, Illinois - Experience of owning a 2010 Equinox

i can relate to your story. I bought a brand new equinox in 2010. It stalled on me at red lights many times. The break was vibrating hard. the dealership first told me it is the fuel pump related issues and replaced the same. but the car was still running rough. after several visits, the dealership replaced the engine. I found out that the dealership had gotten 30+ engines from GM. Though there was no 'recall' it was akin to an official recall. Now last week the transmission failed. its is in a dealership in GA as i write this. Its warranty period is over. and the charges come to $4500.00. This sucks. It was the first time for me to buy a Gm car. It has been a very bad experience. NO more GM cars for me.

General Motors - Buick Enclave Review from Chicago, Illinois

Never do anything like this, but if it saves someone going through the pain my family has, it is worth it. DO NOT PURCHASE A BUICK ENCLAVE. We were so proud of ours when we bought it, but have been so disappointed. Nothing but issues. Started with cracked transmission gear (which they DID fix). Then the front end issues began. Popping and rattling in the front end. Took it in and paid to have it fixed. Caused uneven wear on tires and had to replace those (and 17"tires aren't cheap). Since then, have had front end done 4X!!! Finally a mechanic friend of the family told me to Google (Buick Enclave front end issues) and could not believe what I found. Evidently there are known issues that Buick has decided NOT to stand behind. Several of the complaints said that there repairs usually lasted 3k-5k miles and then came right back (at $1k-$2.5k a pop). Why do I still have it you ask? Because this issue is so known that the dealers I would like to trade with(definitely not Buick), comment on the issues. Don't take my word for it, Google it for yourselves!

General Motors in Naperville, Illinois - Was sold a 2014 chevy Cruze with open axle recall

Bought a used 2014 Cruze from my local chevy dealer. It was a certified vehicle. The car fax showed a open recall for a defective axle. The salesperson, and sales manager informed me that they couldn't sell me the car unless the recall was fixed. And they said it was fixed. This was in July 2014. In November I bring it in for a oil change at dealer and the chevy service tech told me that there still was a open recall on the axle. The same recall that I was told was fixed! After researching the recall while waiting 2 hours for them to fix it I found out that gm issued a stop sale order on all vehicles with this problem until they are fixed. But somehow I was sold this vehicle anyway. I'm very upset because I drive my CHILDREN IN THIS VEHICLE!!! When I confronted they sales manager they really didn't deny or confirm my accusation. But "for my inconvenience he offered to give me a full tank of gas"... Is that really all it takes to sweep a federal offense under the carpet?

After many talks with service manager and then finally sales manager they finally agreed that they made a huge mistake selling me the car. The solution?

I told them I didn't want the car anymore. They traded it in for me and gave me the 18k that was paid for it. Even though I had it for 6 months and 6k miles.

I'm satisfied with the result and will continue to do business with naperville chevy.

General Motors in Chicago, Illinois - Safety Concerns...

1.0
Details
I purchased a 2012 Malibu LT in January of 2012. Since the purchase, I have been to the service department at least 8-12 times for various malfunctions with the car. Last my daughter was driving us home from my mom's house when I heard a loud knocking noise. I looked over and saw the check engine light was on. I immediately called the dealership (whom by the way has been excellent) and they told me to bring the car in asap. Long story short, they told me that they alternator was gone, the water pump was gone, 2 solenoid switches had to be replaced, 2 generators in the rotors had to be replaced, and there a recall on the brake lamp. I called GM to inform them that I don't feel safe driving this car let alone my 16 yr old daughter driving the car. They seemed uninterested in the fact that now I'm still hearing a loud rattling noise coming from under the hood. The car only has 34,778 miles on it. Long story short, after talking to GM back & fourth, they want to extend the warranty on the vehicle as opposed to being proactive and trading me out of the vehicle. In the event that something else goes wrong with the car and my daughter is driving, they would prefer a million dollar lawsuit rather than just paying the difference to get me out of this vehicle. The service manager at GM suggested that I let my 16 yr ride the bus to and from school. I was insulted and pissed because I brought the car so that my daughter wouldn't endure all of the violence that is occurring in Chicago. Can you say unsatisfied customer but I will NEVER be buying another GM product. I am in touch with an attorney.
